4. FBI Books & Series The Josephine Chronicles and Me

Updated: Dec 21, 2023

Lexi Hunter

I'd like my FBI novels to reflect more of an overall authenticity and emotional impact. In knowing Lexi and Josephine's characters, I want the reader to understand my perspective, despite my flaws and contradictions.

As the FBI series The Josephine Chronicles unfolds, is meant to be an intimate and raw insight into my mind as a human and author. Despite my attempts to reach out and connect with others, I often end up feeling more isolated and misunderstood. I'd like my protagonists to struggle in similar ways, but also find release ultimately in long-lasting relationships.

I hope to allow the reader to experience my thoughts, feelings, and perceptions, mirroring the way my consciousness operates through Special Agent Lexi Hunter. This is difficult because Lexi struggles to make sense of the world around her, just as I have struggled. Often, as a writer and thinker, my isolation has been self-imposed. In the second book, I wish to explore Lexi's confusion in relationships, despair in finding love, and longing for connection.

Josephine Barton

Loneliness and isolation are a central aspect of The character Josephine, who was kidnapped into a cult in the first book and rescued eleven years later by her best friend Lexi who has become an FBI agent. Josephine experiences intense feelings of loneliness and a sense of disconnection from the people around her.

Her loneliness is largely a result of her inability to communicate effectively with others due to amnesia. She often feels misunderstood and struggles to express her feelings and thoughts. Even in the character of Josephine, I see my own struggles. But both Lexi and Josephine struggle with the deep sense of loss of innocence. There is a certain criticism of myself and others I've had to continue to work toward overcoming. It is a sense that the world is fake and unreal.

However, I have also felt a beautiful reconnection with innocence in my later years. Not naive thinking but more stopping to smell the roses growing along the edges of dirty city streets. The girls in my books will be learning to look for beauty and friendship again, just as I am in my personal world.

And the male protagonists? Well, that's another story for another post!
