Be assured that Special Agent Lexi Hunter, and Author Melissa Saulnier, will have many things in common. Had I not met a few very frightening men in my life, I might not be able to characterize my villains. I feel uncomfortable overwriting my villains, although that may be what some readers are looking for. I prefer to wait until the end when my villains are revealed as lurid and sensational. They are extraordinary in some way as brilliant yet sadistic, rich yet power-mad, and completely unrepentant for their crimes.
My antagonists are psychologically marked by saintliness and charisma, however on a scale of the greatest criminals of mankind. They have emerged from odd religious groups and leaders whom I have witnessed and seen defeated to some extent. Some of these men are at large. Seemingly, they've escaped Scott-free and are living a life of criminal Luxury. (I'm thinking of a particular disbanded cult group which is under investigation)
I'd like to be more inventive regarding my criminals, making them horribly believable. When referring to the Josephine Chronicles, I have friends who have shared personal knowledge of what can happen to those recruited into cult groups. It is interesting to discover that some tactics cult leaders have used are from our very own military wartime tactics, especially from the 40s to the 60s.
Most of the enemies in my novel will be older males, wealthy, and at first glance trustworthy. My female protagonist will stumble by mischance into their grown-up diabolical games. Some of my heroes will work as military black ops, and at first glance will seem villainous in character. Overall, I want my male protagonist to be as extremely incredible in their skills and talents, as my antagonists are evil.
My black op character, who has become a military ghost after supposedly being murdered in the first book, will have access to 007 bond-like gadgets. He works in a shadowy corporation called NOVA, Inc. whose cover is IT. The undercover department will help my black op ghost find the cult leader throughout the series.
One thing I am sure of, my own introspection will identify my virtues, as well as my vices, which will be injected into my female protagonist characters. Especially, Special Agent, Lexi Hunter.
