I grew up surrounded by people who had rigid views and perspectives on the stories and theology in biblical texts. I've never been interested in debating or arguing and over time many of those who were once rigid in their ideas have discovered what I'm discovering. The biblical text isn't saying what we thought it was saying. Some words and stories don't translate the way we once thought. This post will take a glance at the Garden of Eden. Why has it been difficult to pinpoint? Where was it located?
The biblical text concept is that it was located where four rivers converged, headwaters. This would have been a high location as the text tells us that the rivers watered the entire garden. Mesopotamian literature gives us a concept of cosmic waters converging. Their text goes further to say that in this place of cosmic waters, a human could gain access to other realms. A portal. In modern terms, a stargate.
We know there were special trees in the Garden of Eden. The Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Mesopotamian culture has depictions of a cosmic three tiered tree. The tree branches reach into the heavenly realms, the trunk depicts the earth and the roots depict the underworld. This three tiered cosmology is depicted in many cultures including the Inca of Peru.
Mesopotamian literature tells us this stargate leading to the Garden of Eden was on Mt Hermon. The earthly part of the garden would have covered all of the cradle of civilization. All of Mesopotamia.
The Septuagint and Hebrew texts translate the garden as Paradise. There were Cherubim on each side of the gate guarding the coming and going. Adam had access in and out of this gate in Eden before the gate was shut and he and Eve became cut off. It stands to reason that there was something else these guards were there to prohibit access to Paradise. Maybe they were there to prevent the insurgence from accessing the Tree of Life.
What interests me about the location stemming from the heights of Mt Hermon is that this is where the Watchers spoken of in the Book of Enoch came upon the Earth. We'll come back to that later. And so, at this cosmic gate on Mt Hermon where four water heads were emerging, Adam and Eve had access to the Creator and the council of gods spoken of in Psalms 82.
If one believes the Septuagint and Hebrew stories of the Garden of Eden, it is about Adam and Eve having access to God the Creator and the council of gods. It interests me that all megalithic structures (antediluvian) seem to have been built with a memory of a time when the gods were accessed from high places.
The story of Adam and Eve isn't so simple. It isn't a coloring book story. It is about the older more ancient Sons of God the Creator, the council, and the Watchers of Enoch. Some of these gods were heading up the insurrection to take dominion of Eden and the Earth. They wouldn't have been happy that God had produced more siblings who were allowed to travel in and out of Paradise, to and from Eden, and to Earth where they were given authority. There was a coup to take dominion from mankind. It came from a Watcher, the accuser called Lucifer.
In this story, Adam and Eve lost the most precious thing, being part of the Maker's family. They were cut off because of their actions and the strategy of the insurgents. No longer could they be in Paradise or talk with God. There is some rule of the heavenilies I do not understand concerning this. Biblical text tells us God the Creator of mankind had to send Jesus to be the portal that once again restored man to himself and Paradise. Once again, mankind could be a Son of God, and access Paradise eventually through the stargate which is now called Jesus.
It is the most fantastical and epic story of the War of the Gods, ever told. Is it bizarre? Beyond belief. Do I understand it? Absolutely not. That's why I study. Besides, it is a great foundation for what my trilogy is built upon.
