The Hero's Journey

In the Hero's Journey series, I've been writing about the steps we use to write a story. The truth is, that these steps are useful in sharing our life experiences in an authentic form. I hope this rings true with you too.

The Hero's Journey Homecoming, Transformed

I've faced my ultimate trials, emerged victorious, and experienced a profound Resurrection. But now, as I've made my way back home, I must confront one last challenge—what will this mean to my friends from home? Do they even care? Thankfully, some family members are also on their transformative journey and we've been able to support one another.

This is the bittersweet moment where I re-enter the ordinary world I once knew, armed with the extraordinary experiences, wisdom, and power I've gained. It's a delicate balancing act, as I strive to share my transformative journey with those around me while also discovering a new place in the life I left behind. Everything has changed inside me. But not everyone I've known is ready to change or support my transformation. I'm stronger and not to be messed with! Ha! Personal power can be intimidating. The hero and protagonist in your book will also experience these emotions.

The Second Return is a testament to growth, for I no longer see the world through the same lens. My perspective has been irrevocably altered, and I must find a way to integrate my newfound knowledge and abilities into the fabric of my everyday existence.

The New View

  • High Perspective: The new height has a vantage point that allows it to see far and wide. It can spot opportunities and dangers from a distance, giving it a broader view of the world. My view is no longer ordinary and close to the ground.

  • Strategic Vision: This high perspective enables me to plan my movements and make decisions based on a wide range of information. It represents a strategic, big-picture approach to life. Small criticisms from small-minded folks are no longer important.

In life, it's important to balance our perspectives. Most often, we need to step back and see the big picture like the giraffe.

This is no easy task, as I have faced skepticism, criticism, slander, resistance, or even resentment from those who didn't share my incredible odyssey, nor are they willing to do the work to change themselves. But it's also an opportunity to become a beacon of inspiration, using my story to uplift and empower others on their own transformative paths. Choosing the higher perspective and level takes you out of the drama.

The Second Return marks the true culmination of my journey—a bittersweet homecoming where I am forever changed, yet forever the same. It's a poignant reminder that the most profound journeys are the ones that lead us back to where we started, but with eyes that see the world anew. And all of this Hero's Journey is about writing fiction and nonfiction that resonates with authenticity. I love this and I believe you will too if you do the work!
