The Write Story: About Me

Become an Author!
Become an Author!

Do you want to become an author? You CAN!

When people talked about me up until 2019, and sometimes currently, they speak of my musicianship. They call me “gifted” or a “natural.” But that’s THE WRONG STORY!

From childhood and all through high school and beyond, I practiced outside of my comfort zone when it came to the piano and music. I had one piano teacher for a short period of time because my family was poor and couldn’t afford lessons.

Ask any of my high school classmates or teachers and they’ll tell you I practiced for hours and on weekends. I became very skilled at playing piano in front of large crowds (2000 or more) regularly, every weekend. Here is what I believe; Science proves there are no short cuts. Not even for “naturally gifted” people.

When my skill is dismissed as if it was due to some magical talent that I was born with, I become frustrated.

I took my musical ability into my own hands every time I chose to practice when my friends were out doing other things. EVERY DAY!

As a kid I understood that being great or being the best was up to me. I had to make it happen. It’s interesting to me how people want to ignore the blood sweat and tears it took to become a great pianist. I’ve decided it may be that they don’t want to do the work to be the best at something.

What is invisible, are the evenings of practice at home and on Saturdays, alone, until my fingers hurt.

I cannot allow the remarks people say about my natural talent take away from the greater ability which is the ethic of discipline. There is no inherent talent for discipline. You have to choose discipline.

In 2017, I prepared my mind for the same thing in writing. I understand the practice principles and I put them into action by writing every morning at 4:30 am and often in the evenings after work.

I think you should know that I have a dream to be a best selling author and the odds are in my favor.

If you want to become an author, you can. Just take the ethics of discipline along with the principles of writing and put them into practice. That’s what best selling authors do.
